CUCUMBER IS TEH AWSUM!

Remember my LOLCAT Cucumber post?

Guess who came along and found it? Aslak Hellesøy who actually wrote Cucumber! As a result, Cucumber now speaks LOLCAT!

I never thought it would make it into the official repository! I only did it for the lolz! :)

By the way, i have now started actually testing MyChores with Cucumber. Here is my first feature test, which is surprisingly similar to the LOLCAT one, only in English, heh!

The following was knocked up when i was ill in bed, possibly feeling a tiny bit hysterical! The supposition is that, since Cucumber is multilingual, it would be trivial to make it understand LOLCAT. I quite like the fantasy of employing a team of cats to test MyChores for me! :) Whether i actually go on to test in this way is actually doubtful. It’s so hard to remember how i mis-spelled things!

LilyPond Love

Tonight i decided to write out “Mamma Mia” for my cousin whom i teach piano. I got out my pad of music lines, but hadn’t even set pen to paper before thinking, “I hate doing this! I wonder if there’s an open-source music notation package …”

One quick search later and i remembered LilyPond! A friend showed me this years ago, and i was really intrigued by it. As a programmer, this is very satisfying to me. You write your music as a kind of code, ‘compile’ it, and it outputs PDF, PS and, if you want it, a MIDI file.

     

We used to do this on Windows, with Cygwin. It is very pleasing to use it on its intended operating system now! :) It was easy to input, and i do love the pure geekiness of the notation! :D

Kate Nash spoof song

I can never quite make up my mind whether i like Kate Nash. I feel as if i shouldn’t but for some reason, the music really appeals to me. However, i found this song very funny too …

If you don’t get it, see this video, of the song that goes: “I use mouthwash. Sometimes i floss. I’ve got a family and i drink cups of tea”. However, the “three chords” and drum beat are taken from Kate Nash’s much more popular song, Foundations.

For what it’s worth, my very favourite Kate Nash song is We Get On. I really like Kate’s voice and the sense of a heart-felt story being told in the song.

Windoze

Have you ever done a search in Windows, and kept the search window open for a really long time? That ridiculous dog starts going crazier than usual!

In case anyone is worried i drugged the dog, or forgot to feed it or something, don’t worry! It perked up later on!

I don’t want to be accused of cruelty to pixellated animals, heh!

Today i found out that a 24″ iMac is waiting for me at my new job! WOoooHOooo!! I have been watching videos, boffing up on how Macs work! I have never seriously used one before, but i’m very excited! I’ll be able to honestly compare Windows, Linux and Mac. It also means that Microsoft products will no longer be a part of my life!

This final week seems to be going terribly slowly. I can’t wait to get started at my new job!

OGC logo embarrassment

So the Office of Government Commerce in London decided to make a new logo.

They got it printed on pens and mousemats but not until they presented it to staff did they realise that there was something a bit embarrassing about it.

Still, they’ve spent the money now so they’re going to go ahead with it. Once you’ve seen it the embarrassing way you can’t see it any other way!
